M.Tech. Programme
Indian Institute of Technology Goa offers M.Tech. program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science Engineering. The Institute follows a semester-based academic system and the students are required to meet certain academic requirements every semester.
The academic session of the Institute is divided into two regular semesters (Autumn Semester and Spring Semester) and a summer term. Autumn Semester normally commences in the last week of July every year, and Spring Semester in the last week of December or first week of January. The summer term usually runs from the mid of May to the mid July.
The Institute admits M.Tech. candidates under the Regular and sponsored categories. M.Tech program is for two-year duration and has a combination of compulsory and elective courses. The total minimum credit requirement for the award of M.Tech.degree is 100 credits. The total credits are divided between course and thesis credits, as specified by the individual Department/School. Course credits include theory courses, laboratory courses, seminars and other academic work like practical training, field visits, etc. The credits are distributed over 4 semesters, with a minimum of 24 credits in each semester. The thesis work may begin from the second semester. The student’s performance in a course is continuously evaluated throughout the semester and culminates in the award of a Grade on a 10- point scale. Performance in a semester is evaluated in terms of the weighted average of grade points secured in all the courses registered in that semester, which is known as Semester Performance Index (SPI). A Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) is the weighted average of the grade points obtained in all the courses registered by the student since the time of joining the Institute.
