Prof. Gautam Biswas, Senior Professor Emeritus, BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus, and former Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, delivered the Foundation Day Lecture at IIT Goa on the topic “Academia and Interdisciplinary Research”. Addressing the faculty members, staff, and students of IIT Goa, Prof. Biswas highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary research, drawing inspiration from the ancient Indian civilization and the knowledge-based educational paradigm prevalent in the subcontinent during that era. He also cited the rapid strides made by Japan in diverse areas of science and technology, emphasizing the relevance of India and Japan—two culturally aligned nations—collaborating to advance interdisciplinary science. Prof. Dhirendra S. Katti, Director of IIT Goa, felicitated Prof. Biswas on the occasion.
