The Mission LiFE Cell at IIT Goa organized a 2-day workshop on "Environmental Regulations: Facilitating ESG and Sustainability for Businesses" on 4-5 Oct'24. Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) is an initiative of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi for Environment Conscious Lifestyle. The workshop is supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. The Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi introduced Mission LiFE to the world at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Vivek Bharadwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India & featured Shri Dattaraj Salgaonkar, Chairman, V M Salgaocar Corp. Ltd. Goa. & Shri Nitin Kunkolienkar, Member, BoG IIT Goa. Multiple sessions were held covering diverse topics: 1. Mission LiFE and Circular Economy 2. Overview of Environmental Regulations in India 3. Implementation of EPR Regulations: Challenges & Opportunities 4. International Experiences in Environmental Management & Operations 5. Panchamrti and Viksit Bharat: Industry & Educational Institutions Interface 6. Global Sustainability Frameworks & ESG 7. The Business Responsibility & Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) Mandate 8. Partnerships for EPR Rules & Audit 9. Water, Climate Change & Environmental Regulations Distinguished speakers from MoEFCC, Tata Steel, MRF Tyres, Materials Recycling Association of India (MRAI), ECOEX, Recykal, Taiwan Green Productivity Council, Vishwa Samudra, Sahakar Bharti, CDAC, SEecurities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), HP Enterprises, Central Pollution Control Board, Gravita & UN Global Compact shared their insights on concepts & processes. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from Public Sector Enterprises: Damodar Valley Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Oil India Limited, ONGC Limited, Indian Renewable Energy Development Authority (IREDA), Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (PFC), Vishakhapatnam Port Trust Ltd., West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (WBSEDCL), Chenab Valley Corportation Ltd., Gujarat State Fertilizer Company Ltd.; Govt. organizations like Goa State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (Goa-SEIAA). Corporate sector participants included Optel (Goa), Viatris (Mylan Laboratories Ltd.), Glenmark pharma & Worldwide Diamond Vishakhapatnam. Academic & research institutes like The Energy Research Institute (TERI-Goa) also participated. The valedictory session saw talks by Shri Auduth Timblo, Chairman Fomento Group Goa, Shri Ratnesh from United Nations Global Compact & Shri Kamal Dutta, PCCF, Goa. Professor of Practice Shri Sundeep Nayak was the Chair for the workshop while Dean (Faculty Affairs) Dr. Sharad Sinha was the Co-Chair. Founding Director IIT Goa Prof. B K Mishra & faculty members Dr. Thaseem Thajudeen, Dr. Rudra Narayan Roy, Dr. E Siva Subramaniam Iyer, Dr. Sunil Paul, Dr. Neelakandan R chaired the sessions.
