Over seventy five first year undergraduate students across different colleges in Goa attended Nanojatha, held in Indian Institute of Technology Goa, on 12th February. The students got an overview of various aspects of nanoscience and nanotechnology with a glimpse on the latest advances in these fields. The event was organized in, in association with Karnataka Science & Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS). The event was inaugurated by the Director of IIT Goa, Prof. B K Mishra. Inaugural remarks from the Professor-in-charge (R&D) of IIT Goa, Prof. Dhirendra Bahadur was followed by an introduction lecture on nanoscience and technology by Prof. G U Kulkarni (Director, Centre for Nanoscience and soft matter and president JNCASR, Bangalore). The lecture introduced the students to various facets of research in nanoscience with emphasis on nature inspired technology developments.

Along with students of IIT Goa, there were student representatives from Goa College of Engineering, National Institute of Technology Goa, Dhempe College of Arts & Science and P.E. S’s R.S.N College of Arts & Science. At the exhibition, the students got exposition to some thought provoking experiments and models on various aspects of nanoscience and technology. Volunteers from the ongoing SERB school being conducted in IIT Goa turned teachers and interacted with the participants of Nanojatha, providing answers to the curious and brightest minds of Goa. The expo was followed by a fun and informative quiz session on various topics in basic science and nanoscience. The valedictory remarks and prize distribution were given by Padmashree Prof Ajay K Sood, FRS from IISc Bangalore. IIT Goa will continue to arrange events to disseminate information on science and technology among the students across Goa to kindle their interest in these areas.
