International Yoga Day

In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga was made by the Hon'ble Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. As a part of the global initiative and as an endeavour towards promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being, IIT Goa celebrated the “International Yoga Day” on its GEC campus. The program started with an address by Prof. Sharad Bhartiya, Dean, IIT Goa, in which he laid a lot of importance on well being and health of human body and soul through yoga. He said, “With International Yoga Day Celebrations, Yoga has become a universal phenomenon and it is a joyous moment for us to be a part of it”. Going further Mr. Vinod Chimulkar from Patanjali Yog Samiti, Ponda and his team gave a lecture-cum-demonstration on yoga with the help of volunteers. Students and faculty members of the Institute also performance yoga together on the occasion.
