A one-day hands-on "Beginner's Arduino Workshop" was conducted on 28-09-2019, Saturday for higher secondary school students in IIT Goa electrical lab, under the banner of the Center for Appropriate Technologies for Rural Sectors (CATeRs) of IIT Goa. The objective of the workshop was to introduce the students to the world of electronics at an early stage by familiarizing them with the popular open-source hardware platform of Arduino micro-controllers. The workshop was designed in such a way that even for a student who had no idea about electronic circuit was able to start from scratch and end up with a minimum working knowledge of Arduino at the end of the workshop. The list of activities starts from simple tasks such as blinking an LED to more complex ones such as serial I/O operations using Arduino. More than 30 students from 11th and 12th standards from schools in and around Ponda participated in the workshop accompanied by a few of their teachers. The workshop was managed by more than 10 enthusiastic volunteers from the student and staff community of IIT Goa. The workshop ended with a general positive feedback from the participants who are looking forward to attending more such sessions at IIT Goa. In their own words "...We didn't have much idea about the workshop and were a bit reluctant about the term Arduino, but your volunteers made sure that how simple this can be, even for beginner's like us. It would have been a real miss hadn't we participated because of our upcoming exams...". The workshop was conducted by Dr. Nandakumar Nambath, Asst. Prof., EE and Rohit Nair, 3rd Year B.Tech, EE.
