M.Tech in Chemical Engineering

The Chemical and Materials Engineering program is delighted to offer an M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from July 2025.

Overview

The M.Tech in Chemical Engineering is a comprehensive programme aimed at expanding and enhancing the knowledge and skills acquired during a Bachelor’s degree. The M.Tech in Chemical Engineering is designed to incorporate emerging technologies for energy harvesting and storage where chemical engineers are poised to make significant contributions, particularly in the research areas, such as electrochemical energy storage and conversion processes (green hydrogen production and storage, ammonia synthesis, redox flow batteries), functionalized nanostructured materials (quantum dots, 2D materials, perovskites), soft matter, and colloidal science (metal oxides, particle coating).

The M.Tech is a two-year PG degree, and in the first year, students will complete their coursework, which consists of core, Lab, and elective courses. In their second year, the students are expected to do research under the guidance of faculty members at IIT Goa, resulting in meaningful and significant thesis work. Students must select their M.Tech. thesis advisor by the end of the first semester. The outcome of the M.Tech. Thesis/Project work can be published in reputed journals/conferences or patents or deliverables. The student has to submit a thesis report and take a viva voce examination.

Eligibility criteria and Admission to M.Tech in Chemical Engineering:

Admission to M.Tech is generally via the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and the eligibility criteria will be in line with the institute eligibility criteria.

Eligible GATE Stream Codes: Chemical Engineering (CH), Metallurgical Engineering (MT), Biotechnology (BT), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Engineering Sciences (XE-A + XE-B/C/E/F).

[A = Engineering Mathematics (compulsory), B = Fluid Mechanics, C = Materials Science, E = Thermodynamics, F = Polymer Science and Engineering]

M.Tech curriculum details

The M. Tech curriculum consists of a total of 53 credits, out of which 24 credits from M.Tech thesis.
