IIT Goa established the Center for Appropriate Technology for Rural Sectors (CATeRS) in the year 2018. The aim of CATeRS is to engage in organizing several programs related to education, vocation, along with developing and disseminating feasible technological solutions relevant to society. The Center envisions to address the local needs and requirements by finding innovative solutions through an academic framework and R&D expertise. The following thematic areas have been identified by the Center to work on in priority.

(c) Biomass and alternate energy
(d) Marine resources
(e) Public transport
(f) Dissemination of available and tested appropriate technology
(g) Traditional technical/technological skills
