The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) plays a significant and indispensable role within the engineering and technology-dominant space of IIT Goa. A dialogue between the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences is as crucial to social change as it is to the development of the nation. With this in mind, the goal of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is to help students generate informed and deliberated opinions in order to cultivate a deeper understanding not merely of the confluence of technology and society but of the concerns and interests of humanity at large. Acting as a nexus between the varied viewpoints, modes and methodologies of distinct disciplines and knowledge systems, the school aims to sensitize students to the world we live in by engaging in current debates on different issues of national as well as global relevance. It strives to pursue excellence in teaching and research through its commitment to critical thinking, creativity, interdisciplinary study and scholarship. It is the vision of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to offer a substantial contribution to IIT Goa’s mission to produce responsible leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals instrumental to the sustainable development of the state of Goa as well as the nation as a whole.
