The year 2026 marks the 60th birth year of Prof. Tanusri Saha-Dasgupta, a distinguished scientist whose work has
profoundly shaped computational condensed-matter physics and electronic structure theory in India and beyond.
QM: F2f 2026 takes this occasion to acknowledge her scientific vision, mentorship, and leadership, which have
influenced generations of researchers.
Prof. Saha-Dasgupta is currently the Senior Professor and Director of the S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic
Sciences (SNBNCBS) and adjunct Professor at IISER (Kolkata), Kolkata, India. She completed her doctoral research under the guidance of Prof.
Abhijit Mookerjee and further refined her scientific vision through extensive international research engagements,
including mentorship under Prof. Ole K. Andersen at the Max Planck Institute, Struttgrat. Since joining SNBNCBS in
2001, she has built a globally visible research program, supervising more than 25 PhD scholars and mentoring numerous
postdoctoral fellows and students. Her research contributions—spanning electronic structure methods, correlated
systems, materials prediction, and the integration of machine learning tools—are reflected in over 300 peer-reviewed
publications. Equally significant has been her role in strengthening large-scale computational infrastructure at
SNBNCBS, enabling high-impact research across disciplines.
Her contributions have been recognized through numerous honours, including the Swarnajayanti Fellowship, Head of
MPG-India partnergroup program, J. C. Bose National Fellowship, DAE Raja Ramanna Prize Lecture Award, APJ Kalam HPC
Award, MRSI-ICSC Superconductivity & Materials Science Annual Prize, Dr. P. Sheel Memorial Lecture Award. She has been
elected as a Fellow of various national and international scientific societies, viz. the West Bengal Academy of
Science & Technology, American Physical Society, The World Academy of Sciences, Indian Academy of Sciences, National
Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Academy of Sciences. In 2024, she was awarded Sera Bangali (Best Bengali) by
ABP Ananda for her leadership and contributions to science.
