Inter-IIT Sports Meet
IIT Goa, in its 2nd year of establishment, was represented by a strong 41-student contingent at the 52nd Inter-IIT Sports Meet at IIT Madras from 15th-23rd December 2017. Students participated with great enthusiasm in a total of 6 sports competitions such as Cricket, Football, Badminton, Chess, Table Tennis and Athletics. There were many notable team as well as individual performances. Girls’ badminton team of Ms. Avya Bansal and Ms. Gouri Birhare convincingly defeated IIT Ropar team. Our cricket team also reached the pre-quarter final stage after registering a resounding win over IIT Bhubaneswar in their group stage. Mr. Neeraj Khatri and Mr. V. Prakhyath Shree Harsha gave outstanding performance with bat and ball respectively. Our chess team, ably led by Mr. Abhishek Varghese, performed very well and registered multiple wins. The boys' football and badminton teams also played their heart out, but unfortunately could not register any wins this time. Similarly, all the participants in athletics competition also gave their absolute best but came up short. Overall, it was a big learning experience for our team. The students have come back motivated and inspired to train harder and perform better in the next Inter-IIT.

56th Goa Liberation Day
56th Goa Liberation Day was celebrated on 19th Dec 2017 in IIT Goa campus with lot of enthusiasm and excitement. To mark this momentous occasion, all the professors and staffs of IIT Goa assembled in our conference room for the event. Prof. Rodney Fernandes, Dean (AP) and a native of Goa gave an excellent speech describing the rich history of Goa as well as struggles of Goan people leading up to the liberation day on 19th Dec 1961. He also detailed the other important events which have shaped the history of Goa. This historic day was also commemorated by the launch of new IIT Goa website by our esteemed Director, Prof. B. K. Mishra.

National Unity Day
"National Unity Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the students and faculties of IIT Goa on 31 st Oct 2017 on the momentous occasion of 141 st birth anniversary celebration of ‘Iron Man of India’, Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The event started with recital of our Prof. Arora addressing the audience national anthem followed by the screening of a documentary about the extraordinary life of Shri Sardar Patel to acquaint everyone with his gigantic contribution in shaping up the modern India republic. An elocution contest was also organized wherein students and faculties discussed the relevance and importance of Sardar Patel and his ideals in present day India. The event concluded with everyone appreciating the importance of unity in diversity and need to strive towards upholding it in the face of constant challenges."

Independence Day
IIT Goa celebrated 70 years of India’s independence with great zeal and enthusiasm. The Director of IIT Goa Dr. B.K. Mishra unfurled the flag along with Dr. B.B. Appaji, the Senior Sports Officer of IIT Goa. The students and staff members then proceeded to proudly sing the National Anthem. The Director addressed the guests and participants on the special occasion. Ms. Gunjan Goyal serenated everyone present with a beautiful song, in the memory of all the lives laid down for the country. This was followed by a patriotic song by Mr. Shivam Pandey and Mr. Shreyash Tripathi, students of IIT Goa. Their song filled everyone with a sense of pride and love for our country.
